How do I make up a formula bottle safely?

To make a formula bottle for your baby, follow these steps:

It's important to always follow the instructions on the formula packaging, as different brands may have specific guidelines.

Always clean your hands Before you start, make sure your hands are clean.

Ensure that all the bottles, nipples, and other feeding equipment have been thoroughly cleaned and sterilised. Make sure all areas are clean surrounding bottles etc.

Boil water and then let it cool down. Follow the guidelines on the formula packaging for the specific water temperature required.

Always measure the correct amount of cooled boiled water using the measurements on the side of the bottle or a measuring cup.

Always add the appropriate amount of formula powder to the water according to the instructions on the formula packaging. Always use the scoop provided in the formula container.

NOTE Avoid Adjusting Formula Amounts in Baby's Bottles for Optimal Nutrition. Always follow scoop ratio on back of formula tin. Fie example 3 x scoops for 150 mls.

Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Hold the bottle and gently shake it to mix the formula and water. Avoid shaking too vigorously to minimise air bubbles. Avoid Over-Tightening the Teat on Baby Bottles for Easy Feeding.

Always Check Temperature Test a few drops of the formula on your wrist to ensure it's not too hot. It should feel lukewarm.

If your baby doesn't finish the bottle within one hour, discard the remaining formula. Formula left at room temperature for an extended period can become a breeding ground for bacteria.

After feeding, wash all the feeding equipment with warm soapy water and sterilise if necessary.

Remember, always follow the specific instructions on the formula packaging for accurate measurements and preparation guidelines. It's also a good idea to consult your paediatrician if you have any concerns about feeding your baby or choosing the right formula.

Label the Lid with the Date you opened to Ensure Freshness as it must be used within 4 weeks of opening.
